One of the things there have always been in Lego is police... I like the police stuff in general, but unless you want your town to look a bit unbalanced, you have to pick and choose what to buy - I make it six police stations, plus a small fleet of cars, helicopters, vans and bikes. Thankfully, every now and then they do something a bit different that actually adds to past releases, rather than simply updating them. This is one of them. If you collect much Town Lego, you tend to accumulate policemen, usually far too many to contain in a police station. So having a mobile command centre to co-ordinate things is a helpful addition. From the outside, it's a very neat looking van, though some of the construction, especially at the back, is a bit hap-hazard. It's a shame that it looks like the only way into the back for the cops is to leap over the driver's seat - surely it can't be meant to hinge at the roof? The interior's a little barren too. The map of the town is cool, but it's a shame a sticker with a few displays wasn't put on the opposite panel. What wins big are the extra parts, like the very swish police barriers and the warning light. One minor thing that bugs me is that one of the policeman is randomly in the biker/pilot top. Dunno why, just annoys me. This one would be a bit of a nightmare to get by piecemeal, as it's heavily dependant on stickers - the "Police" decals, the barriers and the map all go a long way towards the look. However, that aside, it's only the white fairing above the windscreen that's especially hard to find. It just lacks identity otherwise. Best bet is to just buy the kit, which can be found for about £5 on ebay. All I've done to spruce up this up is to scan in some generic computers from other kits and print the results out on labels, making the inside look less sparse. While a little flawed, this is a fine addition to any Lego Town police force. It looks pretty cool, and is a nice realistic variation on the police van theme. Cheap, too. Review
