SYNOPSIS

Gadess has landed on Cronos, devastating the largest city on the planet. At their neighbouring settlement Rom and the others are helping with the wounded and pondering how to deal with the Gyandlar. Leina, Kenpô Robo and Fire Robo spot something falling out of the sky near the Gyandlar ship and set off to investigate. The fire has burned enough of the forest to reveal an old ruin. They go underground to investigate, but the incident has also alerted Garudi. He sets out to check it out himself but runs into the patrolling Blackbird Robo. Both are damaged in a brief fight but Garudi parachutes out of his shuttle and lands right on top of the ruins. His shuttle crashes nearby, causing part of the underground building to collapse on Leina and her friends. The next morning Garudi wakes to find Rom, Jet, Drill, Pro Truck Racer and Combat Buggy searching for the missing trio. They find his crashed ship and begin to investigate. Leina and Fire Robo wake up unharmed while Kenpô Robo has found a mysterious helmet and an altar that is a representation of Water, related to a legend of the creator's reappearance on Cronos and one of the four Dragon Emblems. Above, the injured Garudi takes shelter in a cave and contacts Diondra for rescue.

Instead she tells Gadess she doesn't know where Garudi is and suggests firing a missile into the forest to take out Rom and his friends. He sees through her plotting, however. Rom's search party finds the injured Blackbird Robo who tells them of his fight the previous night with Garudi. Leina's group meanwhile make their way to the surface only to find themselves emerging in the same cave Garudi is using as a shelter. He is fascinated by the helmet Kenpô Robo is wearing and attacks but any wounds he cause magically heal. Meanwhile, Diondra has reluctantly set out on a rescue mission in the Varigale-X to find Garudi. Rom, Jet, Drill and Pro Truck Racer spot the huge force and attack. Garudi manages to knock the helmet off Kenpô Robo and take it for himself before Rom finds the trio and battles Garudi. Diondra then fires the missile anyway. Pro Truck Racer helps Rom's friends escape but he is worried about the fate of the injured Garudi, who stands laughing as the missile hits. Enraged at the destruction of the artefact, Kenpô Robo rushes back into the forest but is soon crippled by the missile's effects. Rom changes to Baikanfu and is able to dissipate the after-effects of the warhead. Kenpô Robo finds the helmet unharmed. Unknown to them Garudi has also survived, and swears vengeance against Diondra.

NOTES

Rom joins the ranks of the guys with bloody huge cannons strapped to them. Jet's can attach to his jet mode as well as his robot form.

The city - which doesn't seem to be a reference to Yamilan - was populated by Rock People; no particular types are seen, most being generics using composite models loosely based on Battle Rock.

REVIEW

Back on recent form. The artefact quest is at least interesting and features a couple of different characters. And it looks like Garudi's rivalry with Diondra is coming to a head to boot (though I've said that before).

Let's have more of this and less like the last one please, Ashi in 1987 long before this review was written.
