SYNOPSIS

Gadess levels Yamilan to draw out Rom and his friends. This acheived he dispatches Diondra to attack them with aerial limpet mines, causing heavy casualties before the devices are destroyed by Land Commander 5 and the Rock People. Diondra then leads the Gyandlar troops in to attack on the ground. She battles Rom before an earthquake hits the ruined city. Diondra and Tough Trailer fall into a chasm with the Wolf Sword. They both survive the fall but then get attached to one of the mines. Above ground the battle has turned into a stalemate as each side ponders what to do about their lost comrades and Rod Drill sets out looking for Tough Trailer. Gadess however orders the Gyandlar forces to press home the attack while the enemy is distracted - much to Garudi's amusement.

Underground Diondra and Tough Trailer are forced to work together due to the mine and begin a dangerous escape tethered together. Both are nearly killed when rocks begin falling due to the battle above. Despite the precarious situation Rom and the other survivors are forced to fight back and place their trust in Drill. Another hole has opened under the trapped pair and Tough Trailer is barely able to save them thanks to the Wolf Sword. Drill meanwhile is nearly crushed himself, but saved by a mysterious stranger. Back on the surface Leina is captured by the Gyandlar. Tough Trailer decides to sacrifice the Sword in order to save Diondra. They are both then saved from a further rockfall by the stranger - Tough Trailer's massive brother, Pro Truck Racer. He headed back to Yamilan when he heard there might be danger there. Drill is able to disarm the mine, but as soon as Diondra is free she escapes. Tough Trailer is more concerned about the Wolf Sword. Rom manages to call the sword back up to the surface and form Baikanfu in time to battle Devil Satan 6. Diondra has also arrived back on the surface and purposefully claims Leina is not Rom's sister and she should be let go. The Gyandlar retreat as Drill, Pro Truck Racer and Tough Trailer also return above ground but are caught up in a storm with Leina as Baikanfu watches helplessly.

NOTES

Tough Trailer and Pro Truck Racer are based on the same toy (Tough Trailer had a trailer in the line, Pro Truck Racer a BB gun backpack) despite the latter being twice the height of the former. Kendô Robo has recovered from the injury he received from Garudi last episode.

Errors: How can Drill disarm the mine so easily when Diondra - who deploys the damn things - hasn't a clue? Leina's capture makes her look very stupid after a dozen episodes of general improvement as she stands moping above the chasm and causes the death of Phantom Robo when he attempts to rescue her.

REVIEW

I know I said the Yamilan storyline was getting a little repetitive after a fine run but I didn't really expect the anticlimax of Gadess devastating it off-screen between episodes. This aside it's not a bad episode - Tough Trailer and Diondra's interaction when attached to the mine is worthy if obvious (making her more interesting than she's been for a long time) and it's nice to see how rubbish Rom is without the Wolf Sword.

Pro Truck Racer comes from nowhere though, and is one of several contrived things about the episode.
