SYNOPSIS

Leina is off enjoying some beautiful flowers in Korora when she comes under attack from Rock People. She falls down a chasm while attempting to escape and is promptly attacked by carnivorous plants. She is saved by a Devil Rock who cuts off his lower leg so she can use his foot rockets to escape to the surface. She finds Rom and the others to help her rescuer, which they eventually manage. Jim and Leina take the Rock - named Guri - to a hospital to get his leg repaired. Rom decides to investigate the area with Jet and Drill. They find a Battle Rock being menaced by Gyandlar troops searching for the secret of the local medicine. Rom easily takes them out and attends to Battle Rock.

They take him to the hospital where Guri - his brother - is recuperating under Leina's watchful eye. Guri accuses the newcomer of chasing them both into the pit. The others say they want to wait to find out the truth but Guri discharges himself and disappears. The hospital is then surrounded by Rock People who accuse Rom's group of trying to kill them. Battle Rock intervenes and tells them to stand down. He tells them Guri is a Gyandlar agent after the Hyribead contained under local ruins. Rom agrees to help defend the site shortly before Guri and the Gyandlar arrive. Geiger Rock fires at Leina but Guri blocks his shot. Kenryû intervenes and battles Geiger Rock while the wounded Guri apologises to Leina and tells her how to defeat his comrade. Leina lends him energy to negate Geiger Rock's powers giving Kenryû time to upgrade into Baikanfu and knock him into a field of killer plants which promptly consume the Rock. The remaining Gyandlar retreat. Guri, out of energy, dies but the settlement has been saved. Leina mourns his passing.

NOTES

This episode marks the start of the Ashi-designed generic Gylandar troops being replaced by mooks based on the Gyandlar toys in the line - i.e. reissues of the old Devil Invaders. These include Casmodon types despite one appearing as a named captain (and being destroyed by Rom) in "Pledging Love on the Great River". There are seemingly endless numbers of these even if they only sometimes appear in episodes one at a time.

A Cessna Robo is seen being eaten by a plant at the start and a blue/white Helitranser and a Vertol Robo are seen in the factory. A Supercar Robo and a Battle Robo are working in the hospital, while a red Helitranser, a green Ambulance Robo, a Highway Robo and a Buggy Robo are seen in the hospital corridors. The group outside the hospital include Mecha Rock, Guts Rock and Battle Rock types.

The title is the first one where both Google Translate and the dodgy Hong Kong subs have both given complete gibberish; I've gone with the former.

REVIEW

Another fun and cheerful episode. Guri is surprisingly great - firstly with his laconic behaviour when being eaten by a big flower and then later when he betrays the Gyandlar and sacrifices himself. The double twist neatly negates the Rock Robo being sorted via their affiliation in the toyline too.

Even Leina's not that annoying in this one.
