SYNOPSIS

The travellers are at a race in Momo where they meet Anna, girlfriend of the champion racer Jali. Rom has also entered the race in Flex while Rod Drill is racing under his own power. Jali is fiercely competitive, immediately running three other racers off the road. He is soon battling with Rom, Drill and Buggy Robo for the lead, much to his displeasure. Anna had warned Rom ahead of the race that Jali will defect to the Gyandlar if he wins the race. Jim, Jet and Leina have noticed her anxious behaviour while watching. Jali injures Buggy Robo battling for the lead - much to the joy of Diondra and Gadess, also viewing the competition. Jali sets carniverous plants on Rom and Drill, and though they are no match for the Wolf Sword or Drill's pointy head there are enough of them to surround the pair.

They manage to escape but Jali is now the clear leader of the race. Anna confesses Jali's plans to Jet, who reasures her that Rom with save him. Jali is electrocuted by creatures living in an underground section of the course just as Rom and Drill catch him and the leaders are then ambushed by the Gyandlar. Drill saves Jali while the Gyandlar reveal they don't care about his survival as long as Rom dies. Jali joins in the fight against the invaders while Rom merges into Baikanfu and makes short work of the Gyandlar. The trio continue with the race, Jali vowing to win fair and square. Drill takes the win by a tiny fraction but Jali is happy simply to be clear of evil intentions and reunited with Anna.

NOTES

Jali drives an F-1 Robo, though it never transforms. The Battle Tribe usually win the race and make up the entire field apart from Rom and Jali. Supercar Robo, Off-Road Robo, Limousine Robo (in the same hearse colours seen before as well as the normal scheme), Dumper Robo, New Shinkansen Robo, Bike Robo, Steam Robo, Police Robo, Jeep Robo, Dozer Robo, Buggy Robo, Doubledecker Bus Robo and Porsche Robo are all seen at the race - Bandai must've been on the phone. Kamen Robo also appears, rescuing Steam Robo when he ends up in the water while Battleship Robo also performs a similar task. An orange Countach Robo and another Porsche Robo are among the spectators.

Also in the race is a Honda City Robo, using the same animation model (albeit in white) as the stranger seen in the Battle Armor 5 commercial. The series receives a new theme tune - "Shouri no Machine Robo" by Masato Shimon. It's bloody awful.

REVIEW

Good mindless fun - virtually plotless and packed with squee-inducing cameos.
