The Guardians head into the computer The Command Center is investigating a distress call in space when it's jumped by Cy-Kill's Thruster. The Guardian ship's systems go crazy, but eventually come back under control. Professor Von Joy is Astro-Beamed onboard to help with repairs. He identifies the problems as being caused by electromagnetic interference, and modifies the Astro-Beam to shrink the Guardians so they can investigate the system. Scooter is left watching the ship while Leader-1, Turbo and Van Guard head into the system. Once inside they're chased by the computer's cleaner drones, while outside the Command Center comes under further attack from Thruster. The Renegades board the ship, and Scooter does his best to keep them busy with his holograms. Inside the computers, the Guardians find Vamp, Scorp and Pincher are already there.

Turbo and Van Guard pursued by cleaning dronesCy-Kill deduces that the Guardians have travelled into the computer, and elects to wait for them to return. Inside the Guardians are having trouble dealing with the miniaturised Renegades while also avoiding damaging the computer. Instead they lead them into the path of the cleaner drones, solving the computer problems. Both groups leave the system, but the Guardians are jumped by Cy-Kill and put in neural locks as soon as they return. Scooter sneaks into the computer by himself, and hijacks the intercom, making the Renegades think the Guardians have escaped. He then begins to use the ship against them, and the spooked Renegades flee for Thruster. Scooter returns to normal size, and releases the other Guardians.

The saboteurs Pincher, Vamp and ScorpGobots like oil baths. The Command Center has a backup power supply. Scooter's talent for mimicry is seen again - he impersonates Cy-Kill, Cop-Tur, Van Guard, Leader-1 and Turbo at various points in this one.

This is one of only two episodes not to feature any humans (the other is "The Gobots That Time Forgot") - no part of it takes place on Earth either, and the cleaning drones are the only non-Gobots seen.

The Guardians head back out of the systenGobots Featured: Scooter, Leader-1, Turbo, Van Guard, Cy-Kill, Crasher, Cop-Tur, Professor Von Joy, Vamp, Scorp, Pincher.

Particularly Glaring Errors: Why aren't those cleaner drones bothering the Renegades? Where do those rocks come from?

Moments of Actual Quality: Some of Scooter's tricks are quite good.

Unintentional Hilarity: The cleaner drone that discovers Scooter at the end taps him on the shoulder to make itself known.

The ship attacks Cop-Tur and CrasherOkay, so it's an obvious Tron rip-off, but it means there's a big visual change for much of the episode. The minimalist computer insides are a bit cliché but they look marvellous (and are within Hanna-Barbera's limits).

On top of this, "Inside Job" manages to be solidly entertaining due to Scooter's plucky attempts to keep the Renegades guessing, while there's an entertaining useless cameo from Professor Von Joy too. It's a shame they didn't do more episodes without UNECOM if this is what they'd be like.
