Gobots
Catalogues
Something of a misnomer, I'll grant you. There's only one Gobots catalogue that I know of, and that is basically everywhere. The scan circulating on the internet is of pretty poor quality to boot, so I've left it out. Instead, here are some catalogues from the Japanese Machine Robo and European Robo Machine lines. |
Machine Robo (1983, Popy) Conveniently grouping the 12 Popy Machine Robo Series figures. What's immediately noticeable is that all the figures shown are painted prototypes. What's even more interesting is the moulding on Supercar Robo (MR-07) - the rear wheels are half-covered by the bodywork, and the figure has forearms that hinge at the elbow. |
Machine Robo Series (1984, Bandai) Adding Bandai's first 18 figures to the 12 Popy designs. Bits to look out for are the early colour schemes for Eagle Robo, Doubledecker Bus Robo and 3-Wheel Buggy Robo, as well as the rubber tyres on Jeep Robo. |
Machine Robo Series (1984, Bandai) Up to MR-40 now. Once again, the interesting variants are in the more recent stuff, including Off Road Robo with a red chest, a predominantly-red version of Mini Cooper Robo, a version of Zero Robo with actual arms and a very early version of Kaman Robo. |
Machine Robo (1985, Bandai) This catalogue is in pretty poor condition - this is because it was the one distributed with Bandai's carded reissues of Machine Robo Series figures, and was actually stuck to the bubble, which means these are often torn or ripped. I do have a better copy, which I shall endure to scan. Nothing particularly weird on this one - the first 50 Machine Robo Series figures on the one side, with the Devil Invaders, Big Machine Robo, Battle Garry, Combat Buggy, Battle Base, Battle Armor 5 and Land Commander 5 figures on the back. |
Machine Robo (1988, Bandai) Mainly hyping the Winner Robo (this one did come with Testarossa Winner) and RoboShooter Gaiden. However, there's space on the back for the Battle Hackers, plus a load of stuff from Revenge of Cronos - including the Rock Robo and the Gylandar. Some nice artwork too. |
Machine Robo (1988, Bandai) More Winner Robo love, with the main focus being Fire Winner, Porsche Winner and (the unreleased) 4WD Winner, as well as the Mailaway Thunderer. The back is the usual mish-mash of already-available stuff. |
Robo Machine (1984, Bandai) This small catalogue was packed in with Robo Machine figures for most of the line's life, however outdated it was. These are pretty poor scans; I'll get better ones when I get chance. |
Challenge of the Gobots - A Robo Machine Product (1986, Bandai) A rather belated successor which can be relatively hard to come across... as well as the strangeness of Robo Kong and the Robot Arm Machine, the figures shown are a weird hotch-potch of European and American variants. |
