|Code Name: RED VULTURE|
The Red Vulture was a minor variation of the standard Red Shadow Trooper, packed in with the Shadowtrak vehicle. In the comics, he was a named character in charge of Baron Ironblood's Shadowtrak force (and actually stayed with the organisation after the Baron abandoned it to form Cobra).
In toy form he was just a Red Shadow figure with black gloves and no accessories. So I don't really have any observations to add apart from to say the gloves actually improve the figure (I actually have three Red Vultures I just use as Red Shadows, it's an easy discrepancy to ignore when they all have varying levels of paint wear), and also from the point of view of being a driver it's a shame they didn't make a version with two straight arms (which also would have meant there was a version of the Red Shadow figure out there which could hold a wider variety of weapons).
Instead I'm going to evaluate the Shadowtrak briefly. While the majority of the 1983 Action Force figures were anchored at least in reality, the vehicles weren't. Chief offender was the AF5, which looked like a multi-wheeled Sinclair C5, and had unconvincing flight and floatation capabilities. The Shadowtrak is based on this mould, and though the latter features are thankfully removed, it's still hard to take all that seriously - honestly, put this thing next to the Z-Force MOBAT and see which one you think is going to come out of a fight the winner.
Mine is missing all sorts of bits - the windscreen, the tow-post for the Laser Exterminator and various guns and missiles are absent. However, I've no real desire to complete the thing as it's just a bit silly. That said, the red scheme and coded graphics do give the thing a little style, certainly improving on the preposterous AF5. It's just not worth the price it tends to fetch in decent condition. The Red Vulture's not bad, though, and weirdly doesn't seem to cost much more than the standard Red Shadow on his own.
