SOLDIER
  Code Name: DAINA

Daina is arguably the best-known of the Oktober Guard characters. She was the only founding member to survive the post-Glasnost obliteration of the USSR's alleged equivalent of G.I. Joe (though there was only ever a few of them, rather than the hundred-odd Joes clunking around by then), and in the Devil's Due continuation she was even recruited to the American team for a short while, eventually getting to be a key supporting character in the company's epic "World War 3" storyline.

The figure is largely made up of various Lady Jaye parts (an earlier Oktober Guard figure had been Volga, a straight recolour of the original Jaye with the file name of Daina, but red hair), but the effect is convincing on the whole, with a good choice of upper body parts and colours working well.

Best of all, though, is the head cast. Not only is the head itself perfect, but the sculpt completely nails Daina's furry Russian hat (I'm pretty sure furry Russian hat is the accurate terminology). It's probably the best of the Oktober Guard sculpts full-stop, and makes a world of difference.

Overall it's fitting that the best character gets the best figure, and Daina's superb - rounded out nicely by a great big grenade launcher too. In a way, though, it's a shame - Daina shows how easy it is to get the Oktober Guard figures right, and it makes it all the more frustrating that some of her erstwhile team-mates didn't get the same treatment. The only real fault is my usual regret - that it's a real shame there's no sign of a G3 version.
