|Code Name: RECONDO|
Recondo always left me cold for some reason - something about a chap in a safari suit just seemed that much sillier than a missile specialist in a football jersey or a flame-thrower dressed in bright yellow. However, Recondo's appearances in the Devil's Due comics got him some respect in my eyes, and I'm gradually heading towards completism here, so here he is.
Sadly, being a hardcore undercover operative responsible for helping save the world from Cobra doesn't translate well to the figure, and Recondo is still faintly ridiculous. He's an odd mix of bland and vaguely preposterous. I'm not sure what exactly jungle troopers dressed like in 1984, but Recondo just looks too much like a Victorian explorer in my eyes, something really not helped by the little moustache - the only real grace being that he doesn't have a pith helmet. Actually, part of me wishes they'd gone the whole hog and given him a pith helmet...
Otherwise, he's pretty bland in his tan uniform with only a handful of details to break up the look - swipe his boonie hat and his comically green gun (which he can barely hold) and he could be an extra in a Douglas Fairbanks film. It's worth noting at this point that Recondo should have a green backpack, but I switched it with Flint - this way round it complements both figures a little better, notably matching their webbing.
Recondo's a mediocre figure of a largely mediocre character, with little of the flair and style seen elsewhere in the line. That's partly down to the original concept, but this doesn't really make him any more enjoyable.
