DESERT TROOPER
  Code Name: DUSTY

Dusty was another to really imprint on me from the Action Force comic. It helped that he had cool desert gear, and that his original figure was awesome, especially its' fabric headgear. Since then Dusty's only gone up in my estimation thanks to some respectable showings in the G.I. Joe comic, and being central to one of the best TV episodes, "Traitor".

The 25th version is a loving update of the original, keeping the original's excellent colour scheme and uniform basically unchanged while boosting the articulation. Crucially, his desert hat with its' fabric cowl is reproduced. Now the whole lot is removable too, though sadly the goggles can't fit over his eyes.

Dusty is also well kitted out, with a version of the original machine gun with bipod joined by an assault rifle, plus he gets a backpack - a lot of the 25th Anniversary figures skip the backpacks, but if one guy really should have one, it's Dusty. The detailing on the figure is great to boot, down to the nametag on his left breast.

The only slight niggle beyond the goggles is the little removable part of his tunic, which is tricky to clip into place - on the other hand, once it's on, I can't envision many reasons to take it back off again (and I believe examples bought with the DVD set, rather than from shady ebay sellers, have it already in place anyway). Overall, Dusty is an excellent straightforward version of a classic design, really great stuff.
