DREADNOK
  Code Name: ZANYA

When Devil's Due landed the licence to produce new G.I. Joe comics in 2001 they added several new characters to the series immediately, none of whom ever really caught on - though they tried very hard with Kamakura, who remains a steady Hasbro standby for recolouring and reusing Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow moulds.

Zanya, Zartan's soap cliffhanger daughter, was introduced largely to take over Zarana's cycle slut role when it presumably hit creator Josh "It's like Jurassic Park... if all the dinosaurs had big honkin' guns..." Blaylock that Zarana would be in her thirties. As it was everyone still fancied Zarana anyway so Zanya was fairly rapidly shoved to the sidelines in favour of characters people liked. Nevertheless Hasbro were clearly struggling to fill out the Dreadnok 7-pack in 2011 and she finally got a figure alongside such luminaries as Burn-Out and Zanzibar in the online exclusive set.

While featuring a new head cast Zanya takes bits from extant figures, most noticeably her aunt's torso and arms. This largely works - the different colour scheme and different leg parts give her some individuality, while the paint app of Zartan's hood is a nice touch. Generally she doesn't look much like she did in the comics. Instead of the then-current industrial clubber look she had in them she's been given more of a 1980s look that fits better with the other Dreadnoks and strangely hasn't dated as badly as her comic model. The head cast is solid and the whole effect comes off.

The big fault is the accessories - unlike most of the 1980s Dreadnoks she lacked a special weapon so someone just looked an assault rifle out of the drawer and slung it on her. Which would be great if she could grip it properly - it tends to slip out of either hand very easily. Regardless of this Zanya generally manages to look like a figure in her own right and is a nice addition to a full Dreadnok collection - she's just unlikely to make it very far up anyone's essential list and if the price starts to rise is recommended for completists only.
