|Code Name: INTERROGATOR|
Introduced in 1991, Interrogator was a rare hit in the early 1990s for the line - doubly so for a Cobra as they seemed to cop most of the flourescent plastic and maniacal head casts by that point. He was just a feller in a uniform with a nasty job even if he did have a helicopter strapped to his back. After all, this was the year of the Toxo-Viper, the Eco-Warriors and Tracker.
In these days of updates for Zandar, Mercer, Footloose and Jinx all getting G3 figures I'm low on stuff to moan about but I do think Interrogator should be near the top of the list of guys who need an update. However, unlike many he actually has a very good G2 toy. This was issued in 2006 as part of the Viper Lockdown set that also included 3 3/4" figures of G.I. Joe and G.I. Jane, making it one of G2's more interesting releases. A 2010 convention version sadly kept the O-ring system, used a less unique set of molds and featured a removable helmet which revealed the sinister truth - that Interrogator looked pretty much the same as Duke. Woo.
The original had a very sensible design and it's largely been stuck to here but just bulked up and tweaked. There's a fittingly sinister grey greatcoat cast on the torso while his X-shaped harness is no longer molded to the chest but a seperate (if non-removable) part, complete with gun holster and removable pistol. The helmet's given an additional silver crest and there's just generally more bulk. He doesn't look bad alongside G3 figures thanks to the great proportions - a little short but then I quite like the idea of him being a diminutive sadist; it's not like he'd be riding into battle or anything.
While the toy only came with the pistol and a couple of knives (no holsters or anything, he must have just wandered around holding the things). Thankfully he's a good recepient of some of the nuttier gear you tend to accumulate when collecting G.I. Joe figures and I tend to equip him with the original's evil-looking prong-equipped gun, a Tele-Viper backpack and a briefcase. A very good figure that's well worth hunting down while we wait and see if Hasbro can sneak a new version out in a forthcoming line.
