|Code Name: DESTRO|
Whether it's as the evil weapons supplier who never really supplied any weapons in the cartoon, the Scottish nobleman who sold some weapons but was basically alright in the American comic, the deformed arms salesman who was a right bastard in the British comic or a slab of Formica from Salford who said "mon" every now and then when he remembered in The Rise of Cobra, there's a fair chance that if you got here you know who Destro is. He's one of the most popular and enduring characters from the series, and as such there have been something like 25 figures of the guy made.
I went for the first 25th Anniversary edition. He's one of the largest figures in terms of height (though not as stocky as Bazooka), which really gives him a muscle-bound feeling. That said, the neck muscles are a bit overdone - the flesh between the jacket lapels is a bit too far forward compared to the head and means he must have a pretty weird thorax under his big collar. He displays well with the relatively petite Baroness, though.
However, the detail is pretty good otherwise, from all the little buckles and straps down to the gauntlets and wrist-rockets. Gauntlets always come off well in the 25th Anniversary line, actually, as they give a good place for wrist articulation to be located without the chap having gashes in his arm.
The accessories are something of a curate's egg, though. They're comprehensive, consisting of a submachine gun, two distinctive MARS pistols and a briefcase containing another pistol. However, the thin pistols can only be housed in a big fat holster on the left leg which not only looks wildly out of proportion, but can barely hold the weapons (which, for the full bonus points, are tiny and easy to lose). Also the right hand is semi-clenched - not enough to form a fist, but enough that it can't actually hold any of this stuff, so apart from the irritating holster, Destro can only actually hold one of these things at a time. Nevertheless, even with these problems, Destro remains a highly competent figure, and won't disappoint.
